Do we find missions in the Psalms?

A »

If you take time to read through the Psalms with the nations in mind, you might be surprised. You will find references to the earth, nations or world almost 200 times.

Beginning in Psalm 2:7-9, there is a prophecy where the Father promises His Son the nations as His inheritance. Christ’ ownership of the nations is foundational to missions work. Psalm 46:10 is familiar. It begins, “Be still and know that I am God;” BUT it continues in that same verse, “I will be exalted in the earth.” Look at Psalm 67:1, a Scripture often used as a benediction. “May the Lord be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us.” That is only half of the verse. Continuing in verse 2 it states, “That your ways may be known on the earth, your salvation among all nations.”

The Psalms are full of verses just like these when we read them with the nations in mind.
